Two years after “Subconscious-cape”, Noraset staged another solo exhibition. “Slow down” does not only feature a new short film with the same name, but also showcases his old works ranging from “Another world” (2007), for which he captures footage of audiences walking in the blue-screen room. For “Slow down”, Noraset also reworks “Subconscious-cape” adding some extra components in another box and a small keyboard with which you can play music. The keyboard is programmed that when you play the “Happy Birthday” song or the Thai National Anthem, which are about “life”, the images on the screen will continuously change.
Both works bespeak Noraset’s artistic character: the use of mixed multi-media, customized engineered tools, the construction of an imaginary world, and the invitation to let the audience participate in his installations. However, it is how the artist deals with different viewpoints that matters most. Noraset forces the audience to change their viewpoint from looking at things to look at how they would see themselves walking among the ruins or on a journey from the perspective of a remote-controlled car that drives on a deserted, seemingly endless route. The viewer is capable of looking from a perspective outside of himself/herself as in an act of Vipassana meditation, where the mind leaves the body and is able to look back at the self. Therefore, the viewer can see and experience something never seen or experienced before.
